Maximum material condition

The advantage of maximum material condition lies in that given tolerances on a drawing can be enlarged when the tolerance of the corresponding characteristic is not being completely used. The tolerance compensation enables physical inspection that is orientated to the function of a component. This means that fully functional and paired parts amongst others do not need to be rejected if individual measurements or positional tolerances are not complied with.  This reduces wastage.

The use of this tolerance principle is generally recommended when parts are paired with counterparts. This is noted in the drawing by a . For example if a shaft passes through a bore, then the boring will be dimensioned via the diameter and position. If the bore diameter is slightly bigger, then the position accuracy may be greater than the permitted tolerance but the components can still be joined together.

With the help of the iqs initial sample inspection report (ISIR/FAI), the actual values can be evaluated according to the maximum material condition (DIN EN ISO 2692). The integrated formula editor enables characteristics to be created according to the maximum material condition and measurement specific tolerances displayed according to the allocated positions.  The user may also create own formulas.
